Eastern Sicily enjoys a classic Mediterranean climate, characterized by long, sun-drenched summers and mild, gentle winters. Thanks to the unique interplay between the Mediterranean Sea and the microclimates of Mount Etna, the region offers pleasant conditions year-round:
WEATHER & CLIMATE
SPRING
Warm, sunny days with blooming landscapes and average temperatures ranging from 18°C to 24°C (64°F–75°F). Ideal for sightseeing, hiking, and outdoor activities.
SUMMER
Hot and dry with endless blue skies. Coastal temperatures average 28°C to 34°C (82°F–93°F), accompanied by refreshing sea breezes—perfect for beaches and water sports. Higher elevations around Mount Etna offer cooler relief.
AUTUMN
Pleasant and mild, with temperatures between 20°C and 27°C (68°F–81°F). Sea temperatures remain warm enough for swimming well into October, making it a fantastic season for wine tasting and cultural tours.
WINTER
Mild along the coast with average daytime temperatures around 12°C to 16°C (54°F–61°F) and occasional rainfall. Mount Etna receives regular snowfall, offering the rare and spectacular experience of skiing down an active volcano with views of the blue sea below.
PACKING TIP
Even in warm months, temperatures on Mount Etna drop significantly with altitude. We recommend bringing light layers and a jacket if you plan to explore the higher summit areas.
